Prayers
and Thoughts for Reflection
There
are hands that help and comfort, Every
man’s life is a plan of God. The
Lord is righteous in all his ways and loving to all he has made. God
asks no man whether he will accept life. That is not the choice. You
must take it. The only choice is how. He
who walks with the wise, grows wise. Life
is like a library owned by an author. In it are a few books which
he wrote himself, but most of them were written for him. Have
I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or
do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever
you go. Before I awaken this morning you are with me, Lord. As I open my eyes, I thank you for the gift of this new day. May I take this certainty of your presence with me into all this day can hold – help me not to waste it. I bundle my fears of what this day may bring and place them in your hands. Let me see the people you send to me, not as interruptions in my schedule, but as creations in your image to touch and to love. Be with me now as I arise. Open my heart to love, to trust, to hope, to share, to give, and to the call of the needs of others. Give me an awareness that is constantly opening all of my senses to search for the hidden joys, the tiny discoveries of your gift of life. Come unto me now and shepherd me through this day. Amen Men
are born to succeed, not to fail. He
gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. If
at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Because
the hand of the Lord my God was on me, I took courage. The
purpose of life is a life of purpose. Carry
each other’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law
of Christ. It’s
faith in something and enthusiasm for something that makes a life
worth living. Be
not afraid of life. Believe that life is worth living, and your belief
will help create the fact. Life
is currently described in one of four ways: a journey, a battle a
pilgrimage, or a race. Select your own metaphors, but the necessity
of finishing is all the same. For if life is a journey, it must be
completed. If life is a battle, it must be finished. If life is a
pilgrimage, it must be concluded. And if life is a race, it must be
won. Life
is a race. Don’t whimper if the track is rough and the goal
is distant. One day you shall reach it. The
real art of life consists in finding out what is the question to be
solved, and the person who can find out what problem is to be solved
is the man who really makes contributions to life. A
life without cause is a life without effect. It
is not so much where you live, It
is not so much Where you live, Any
Why you live, and whether you Aim high and noblest ends pursue, And
When you live, and whether Time It
is not so much Where you live, Never
despair, but if you do, work on in despair. For
God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of
love and of self-discipline. Where
there is love there is life. Lord, give me wisdom when to go and when to stay. Show me your ways and teach me your paths. Give me the faith to take the next step, even when I don’t know what lies ahead. Give me assurance than even if I stumble and fall, you’ll be there to pick me up and put me back on the path. Help me to see that even if I lose, you will never lose me. Amen Those
who aim at great deeds must also suffer greatly. He
who has a why to live, can bear almost any how. Turn
your stumbling blocks into stepping stones. Though
I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will
be my light. To
every disadvantage there is a corresponding advantage. An
iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. It
is a rough road that leads to the heights of greatness. Strong
people are made by opposition like kites that go up against the wind. Life
is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you
can. When I freeze in worry and indecision, fill me with discernment to recognize when to wait and to understand when to move. Fulfill me with the faith that keeps me moving forward. Restore me with signs of hope found in ordinary places. Give me ears to hear and eyes to see. Help me recognize your presence in this nudge to movement. May I see the possibilities in all you have set before me. Amen You
cannot discover the purpose of life by asking someone else –
the only way you’ll ever get the right answer is by asking yourself. Live
in the active voice, rather than in the Without
discipline there’s no life at all. Living
involves tearing up one rough draft after another. I
know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.
I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation,
whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I
can do everything through him who gives me strength. Grant
me the courage not to give up even though I think it is hopeless. We
make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. Life
is a succession of lessons, which must be lived to be understood. We
can discover this meaning in life in three different ways: by doing
a deed; by experiencing a value; and by suffering. What
we call the secret of happiness, is no more a secret than our willingness
to choose life. The
God of all grace . . . will himself restore you and make you strong,
firm and steadfast. Happiness
is not so much in having as sharing. We make a living by what we get,
but we make a life by what we give. The
person who tries to live alone will not succeed as a human being.
His heart withers if it does not answer another heart. His mind shrinks
away if he hears only the echoes of his own thoughts and finds no
other inspiration. Live
your life and forget your age. Twenty
years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t
do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away
from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore.
Dream. Discover. The
Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord
is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid? God
will not let your foot slip – he who Nothing
in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood. Let
us so live that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry. When
I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would
not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, “I used
everything you gave me.” When
the rock is hard, we get harder than the rock. When the job is tough,
we get tougher than the job. It
is a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but
the best, you very often get it. Dear Lord, let me never give up on life. Help me to stand sheltered beneath your banner in the sunshine or storms of my life, assured by Your word that I am never alone. When I sit in contentment, awaken me into action. Whenever You come to me – whatever You ask of me – let me be ready and eager to open the door in welcome. Remind me that there is work for me to do. Surprise me with your dreams for my life. Amen Jesus
said, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his
life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do what I command.” An
authentic life is the most personal form of worship. Everyday life
has become my prayer. I
would never have amounted to anything were it not for adversity. I
was forced to come up the hard way. One
today is worth two tomorrows; never leave that till tomorrow which
you can do today. I
see your hand, Lord, in everything around me, Lord,
hold our troops in your loving hands. You go
no where by accident. O
God, help me to touch someone today with my eyes, my words,
