Prayers
and Thoughts for Reflection
There
are hands that help and comfort,
For
you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s
womb. We
are the clay, and you are the potter; we are all the work of your
hand. All
the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them
came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast
is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would out number the
grains of sand. Finally,
be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Therefore put on the
full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be
able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to
stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your
waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your
feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you
can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet
of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers
and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying.
The
script is the Bible. If you imagine setting off on an adventure in
a canoe, the script is the strong arms that shove you out into the
stream. It is the map of where you are going. God
enters by a private door into each individual. There
are two kinds of people: those who say to God, “Thy will be
done,” and those to whom God says, “All right, then, have
it your way.” Lord,
we pray for the power to be gentle; the strength to be forgiving;
the patience to be understanding; and the endurance to accept the
consequences of holding to what we believe to be right. Amen Life
is God’s novel. Let him write it. When
you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers,
they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will
not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you. If
you don’t know what’s meant by God, watch a forsythia
branch or a lettuce leaf sprout. God
loves each of us as if there were only one of us. Your
talent is God’s gift to you. What you do with it – is
your gift back to God. God’s
gifts put man’s best dreams to shame. Help me to take stock of your gifts to me, Lord. Remind me that it’s not what I do, but my doing that ultimately matters. Help me to slow down, to be silent, so I can hear you and do your will, not mine – to let you guide, instead of trying to control. In your hands, each day will bring its own gifts. I know that the best is yet to be. Amen But
I always think that the best way to know God is to love many things. You
can tell the size of your God by looking at the size of your worry
list. The longer your list, the smaller your God. Make
this home worthy of the presence of Jesus the Unseen Guest. Let him
be your guide in speech and conduct. Dedicate each day’s activities
to the glory of God. Peace
on the outside comes from knowing God on the inside. Fear
knocked at the door. Faith answered. And lo, no one was there. Until
now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive,
so that your joy may be complete. All
that I have seen teaches me to trust God for all I have not seen. The
Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs. To
me, faith means not worrying. No
pillow so soft as God’s promise. Let
God’s promises shine on your problems. Faith,
indeed, has up to the present not been able to move real mountains.
. . . but it can put mountains where there are none. Faith
is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase. God’s
promises are like the stars; the darker the night, the brighter they
shine. Consequently,
faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through
the word of Christ. I
think Bible principles are principles for life. Within
the covers of the Bible are the answers for all the problems men face. I
know God will not give me anything I can’t handle. I just wish
that he didn’t trust me so much. Every
happening, great and small, is a parable whereby God speaks to us,
and the art of life is to get the message. Increase my vision, Lord. In the brightest moments and the darkest hours, help me to give thanks. In the face of fortune and misfortune, let me give thanks. In the presence of pleasure and pain, remind me to give thanks. You have thought me that lessons and blessings are found not just in the light - but in the darkness. Amen Trust
in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Some
of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers. Weave
in faith and God will find the thread. Life
is a tapestry: We are the warp; angels, the weft; God, the weaver.
Only the weaver sees the whole design. For
we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good
works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Father,
please work Your will in my life so that others will see You as the
Workman. Amen Some
stand on tiptoe trying to reach God to talk to him – you try
too hard, friend. Drop to your knees and listen to him, he’ll
hear you better that way. Prayer
is when you talk to God; meditation is when you listen to God. If
you want to know what God wants you to do, ask him, and he will gladly
tell you, for he is always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom
to all who ask him; he will not resent it. I
would rather walk with God in the dark than go alone in the light. Draw
near to God and he will draw near to you. I
had a thousand questions to ask God; but when I met him they all fled
and didn’t seem to matter. Any
fool can count the seeds in an apple. Only God can count all the apples
in one seed. Are
you wrinkled with burden? Come to God for a faith lift. Lord, I thank You that You are taking me where I need to go and giving me everything I need to get over the rough spots along the way. With you, failure is never final, but an opportunity to learn and to grow. Give me energy and patience to go with the flow. Amen He
who kneels before God can stand before anyone. God
understands our prayers even when we can’t find the words to
say them. God
can do anything, you know – far more than you could ever imagine
or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing
us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within
us. To
have God’s words inscribed on your heart is to be armed for
all the world’s battles. Dear
Friend, pay close attention to this, my wisdom; listen very closely
to the way I see it. Then you’ll acquire a taste for good sense;
what I tell you will keep your out of trouble. Unknown,
but not uncharted, tomorrow waits for our arrival – a day designed,
a place prepared with tender care by the One who goes before us …
Let us walk with faith behind him in the footprints of his love. I
see your hand, Lord, in everything around me, and in every aspect
of my life, I seek your will. I see your plan, Lord, in all the years
behind me, and in the days and years to come – I’ll trust
you still. You go no where by
accident.
