LISTEN

In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.

Hebrews 1:1 – 2

We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.

Hebrews 2:1

As the Holy Spirit says:  “Today, if you hear his voce, do not harden your hearts.”

Hebrews 3:7 – 8

Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.  Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live.

Isaiah 55:2 – 3

Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

James 1:23 - 24

Jesus said, “Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me.”

John 6:45

Jesus said, “The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep.  The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice.  He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.  When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.

John 10:2 - 4

Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”

John 10:27

We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us.  This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

1 John 4:6

This is the confidence we have in approaching God:  that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.  And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.

1 John 5:14 – 15

The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”  Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind.  After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.  After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire.  And after the fire came a gentle whisper.  When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.

1 Kings 19:11 – 13

Whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.

Proverbs 1:33

Pay attention to my wisdom, listen well to my words of insight that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge.

Proverbs 5:1 – 2

He who listens to a life-giving rebuke will be at home among the wise.

Proverbs 15:31

Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.

Proverbs 23:22

Jesus said, “Here I am!  I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me”

Revelation 3:20

The boy Samuel ministered before the Lord under Eli.  In those days the word of the Lord was rare; there were not many visions.

One night Eli, who eyes were becoming so weak that he could barely see, was lying down in his usual place.  The lamp of god had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was.

Then the Lord called Samuel.  Samuel answered, “Here I am.” And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.”  So he went and lay down.

Again the Lord called, “Samuel!”  And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”

“My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.”

Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord; The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.  The Lord called Samuel a third time, and Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”

Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy.  So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel!  Samuel!”  Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”  And the Lord said to Samuel:  “See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle.”

1 Samuel 3:1 - 11
