FPC Sewing Group
Fall 2007
By Lynne Thompson
The sewing group was started almost 10 years ago to meet the needs of various charities that touch us in the life of the church and community. We welcome anyone to come and help, whether you sew or not. There is plenty to do even if you don’t sew. The Sewing group meets at 10 a.m. on the first and third Mondays each month (except for holidays) in the multipurpose room. Come enjoy the fellowship and help with the cutting, pinning, pressing, turning, sorting, etc. These tasks are an important part of accomplishing our mission outreach.
This summer the Sewing Group supported Sew Much Comfort that provides adaptive clothing to wounded soldiers. In addition, 38 pairs of pajamas were made and taken to AIDS patients at a 25:40-sponsored clinic in South Africa. We will continue these projects into the fall.
New Projects:
Honduran children need our help to go to school!!
Lisa Armstrong from the Fellowman Ministry in Honduras has asked if we could provide garments for a school uniform. The children need white shirts, t-shirts or blouses, navy blue boys’ pants and girls’ skirts. If you have any of these items, we would appreciate them. The children are small so we need things starting at size 4 and going up to sizes appropriate for 12th graders. We can make the skirts easily but we certainly would appreciate donations of the pants and tops. They need not be new but they should be in good condition. Please leave any donations in the MPR labeled for the sewing group. Leave your name and address, if you want a tax receipt. We will also be making backpacks, as we did last year. The Midlife Men on a Mission will take them in November when they go to Honduras and Lisa’s clinic.
Without uniforms, the children cannot attend school.
Please contact Lynne Thompson at MsLynneTsews@aol.com or 703 273-5300, for more information about the sewing group and how you can help.

Wounded Soldiers Need Your Help!
Sew Much Comfort provides male and female soldiers with adaptive clothing that is not available commercially. Clothing is modified to accommodate fixators, casts and halos or to make medical treatment easier. Pants, shorts and underwear are made with one larger leg using Velcro fasteners. Boxer or athletic shorts and shirts are adapted to open on one or both sides and underarms. We adapt them and take them to the local SMC director who gets them to those with needs.
Specific Needs for Sew Much Comfort: medium, large and extra large men’s dark-colored boxer or athletic shorts, men’s or women’s polo or t-shirts. Sew Much Comfort asks that items be new, washed and dried without fabric softeners. Please label all items and leave them in the MPR.
25:40 Pajama Project
Dr. Carol Hofmeyer has several clinics around Hamburg, South Africa for people with AIDS or other illnesses, for the past two years she has asked for sleepwear for patients of those clinics. We have made 70 pairs of pajamas in the past 9 months. We will continue with this project as long as our fabric stash lasts. We take donations of pajamas or other sleepwear, either new or in good condition.

We make wheel chair/walker bags for the needs of FPC members and friends and also assist the Purly Gators with their shawl ministry bags. Please let us know if we can provide one to you or a friend.
