The Lamb Center

A Letter from the Lamb Center

Dear Pastor Brinton,

We at the Lamb Center would like to express our gratitude to you and your congregation for your generosity in helping our guest Sandra Danforth have the shelter of a room at the Breezeway Motel for two nights.

Sandra is homeless, lives in her very old car, which contains all her possessions and her oxygen tank. She is on the waiting list at Pathways but in the meantime her life is very difficult.

We at the Lamb Center do care for some of the poorest of the poor and we depend on the generosity, love and compassion of the Christian churches of Northern Virginia.

You have truly been the hands and heart of Christ in your kind assistance to Sandra. May you and your entire congregation be blessed by the Peace and Love of Christ.

Sincerely,Joyce Wilkinson, Volunteer

In 2006, The Lamb Center’s employment program helped 60 homeless people find jobs and assisted a number of them to find housing as well. In the first eight months of 2007, that number had already been surpassed.

Fairfax City and the surrounding county are not immune from the homeless problem. The Lamb Center is a walk-in facility for homeless persons, with an average of 60 guests using the Center facilities in any one day. The Center provides showers, laundry facilities, and telephones for local calls. Guests may use the Center's address and telephone numbers for job applications, mail and messages. Volunteers are on hand to assist with all facilities, including laundry. The Center is not an overnight shelter.

Since The Lamb Center is totally funded by local churches, individuals and corporations, it is openly Christian. There are twice daily Bible study and prayer sessions and guests and volunteers are urged to participate. Fairfax Presbyterian Church provides support to the Center through funding and many volunteer hours.

Training is given to all volunteers, who generally work one-half day a week. The primary skills are to assist in all the activities and listen and talk to the guests, many of whom have no family and feel alone in the world. The Lamb Center has one full-time Director and a part-time Associate Director who do most of the counseling and direct Center operations.
