Music Visioning Task Force Announces
Vision for FPC’s Music Ministry
By Michelle Coon and Serena Mercer
The Music Visioning Task Force (MVTF) of Fairfax Presbyterian Church envisions a vibrant music ministry as an integral part of the worship of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Music is offered to open our hearts and minds for worship and inspire us in both prayer and in our spiritual lives. MVTF envisions doing this in a cohesive and comprehensive approach to the worship of God through music ministry.
The MVTF envisions a music ministry that enables all ages and capabilities, from children 3 and 4 years old through the years of youth and teens, young adults, adults and golden agers, to participate in music ministry in many ways which enrich the spirit. It is important to strengthen the choirs and ensembles we presently have while providing opportunities to expand in the future. MVFT wants ensure that leadership for all of our music offerings comes from the music ministry. MVTF wants to rebuild our children and teen choirs into a graded program so that there is a continuity in their growth in voice, instrument, fellowship and spirit and wants FPC to provide support to the music of the fellowship group. This will all take committed parents as well as committed leaders from FPC.
The MVTF envisions offering many types of music in worship so that all can experience the great depth and breath of a variety of music. This exposure should be seamless in our worship so that all may experience the many ways we are brought in the presence of God in music that speaks to each of us. The MVTF also envisions excellent musical accompaniment for the choirs, solos and congregational singing with the organ and other musical instruments as is appropriate.
The MVTF recognizes that the congregation of FPC demands and expects excellence. MVTF envisions a music leadership staff that operates as a team, plans ahead, is supervised by a director and sees that all groups operate inclusively and comprehensively. To that end the MVTF aspires to have trained musical leadership which will ensure the high quality of the musical offerings and provide an environment which is nurturing, encouraging of spiritual growth and builds community as well as good management which will incorporate the wide array of music groups into our worship services.
