Fairfax FISH Offers Varied
Ways To Assist Needy
Fairfax Families
Fairfax FISH, an all-volunteer organization supported by FPC, anticipates an increased demand on its resources for help with utilities, rent and food for indigent families with the coming cold weather. Your donations during the past year have made it possible to help hundreds of needy people in the Fairfax area. Please help us continue to support this work by designating Fairfax FISH (code 8305) when you respond to the ongoing United Way Campaign. Thank you for your support!
The Fairfax FISH holiday Adopt-a-Family program is starting to receive names of families who live on the edge financially and can’t afford the things we take for granted every Thanksgiving and Christmas.FISH works with Our Daily Bread, school counselors and Fairfax County social workers to identify families in need of holiday assistance to provide them with the basics for a holiday meal a few days before Thanksgiving and Christmas so the recipients have the wherewithal to prepare a meal for themselves.
At Christmas, a few gifts of clothing or toys are added to the food basket. If you as an individual or a group to which you belong would like to adopt one of these needy families for one or both of the holidays this year, of if you would like to know more about this wonderful way to share the joy of the holidays, please contact Serena Mercer.
Adopt a Family For the Holidays
It's not too late to help a family who has fallen on hard financial times to celebrate this season of thanksgiving and love by adopting them for Christmas. You can do this by providing the ingredients for a meal and gifts for children. Singles, families, groups or teams of people are invited to share in this mission outreach.
Last year FPC members provided Christmas meals for twelve families. These meals and gifts were warmly received and deeply appreciated.
Come and share your abundance. For more information or to adopt a family, please call or email Serena Mercer at 703-352 -1515 or smmercer2@verizon.net by Monday, December 10.
FISH and the Combined Federal Campaign
Each year FISH helps hundreds of local families remain in their homes, keep their utilities connected, feed their families, obtain needed medicine and afford transportation to medical appointments. Please consider donating to FISH to help our neighbors with emergency needs through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC).
The Combined Federal Campaign for 2007-2008 is now underway. New five digit codes have been assigned to all local, national and international charities. The NEW CFC CODE that you should use to designate FISH as the recipient of your donation is 72413.
If you have donated to FISH in the past through the United Way campaign, that code remains the same (8305). |
