Godly
Play, our Bridges to Worship program introduces
children in Kindergarten through third grade to the wonder
and awe of worship. The program is offered at the 8:45
a.m. service each Sunday except Jubilee Service Sundays
(usually the fourth Sunday of the month). Children enter
the sanctuary with the parents to participate with the
congregation for a brief time. They are dismissed following
the "Conversation with the Children" to accompany
their adult leaders to Godly Play in the Children's Worship
Center in Room 243.
In
Godly Play, storytelling, art, music, and other activities
enable the children to experience God using all their
senses. They learn to use the religious language through
experiencing the parables, sacred stories from the Old
and New Testaments, silence, and liturgical action. The
children affirm the mystery of God's presence in their
lives and are encouraged - through "wondering"
- to relate parables and Biblical stories to their personal
experience. The Godly Play worship incorporates the elements
of greeting, hymn singing, experiencing the Word through
storytelling and response, reading Scripture, prayers,
and benediction. Through the Godly Play worship, the children's
faith and spiritual development are nurtured and their
own innate relationship with God is affirmed and encouraged.
Storytime – Ages 2 thru 5 meet in Room 254 for play, activities, Bible stories and more, following the Conversation with Children. Adult volunteers are always needed. Sign up in the classroom.
Child care is available for infants 6 weeks old thru 3 yrs in Room 244 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. During the 11:15 Worship Service, child care is available for children from 6 weeks thru 5 years.
