Children’s Ministry of
Fairfax Presbyterian Church
Our vision
At Fairfax Presbyterian Church, we define Christian Education as the effort of the entire congregation to develop disciples of Jesus Christ through prayer, study, and application of God's Word, development of character, and involvement in mission.
Through a variety of experiences and programs for all ages, we seek to:
- Lead people into a growing relationship with Christ
- Model the Christian response to the scriptures, making them relevant to daily encounters
- Inspire the joy and passion of the Christian experience
There is a great energy and ideas in those working with our children and youth. We are seeking new ways of lighting the spark of discipleship in our young ones. Meanwhile, the children themselves can be amazing teachers to us with their thought provoking questions and different perspectives.
Would you like to be involved?
CE provides a number of opportunities to grow in our own faith as well as supporting the faith development of others. If this sounds appealing to you, please contact our Associate Pastor or CE elders Melinda Bauers and Cate Rodman and be ready for some excitement!!
Fairfax Kids implements this mission by partnering with parents to raise children who are lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ. At FPC, we take seriously our baptismal vow to guide and nurture by word and deed, with love and prayer, those children who are part of our community of faith. We encourage children to know and follow Christ and to be faithful members of Christ’s Church.
Our values are encompassed in the word FAITH:
F: Form children to be followers of Christ;
A: Advocate for family centered faith development;
I: Inspire the joy and passion of Christian discipleship;
T: Teach the Scripture, making it relevant to daily living;
H: Help families live and share God’s love with one another and the world.
Our goals are:
- To welcome and love each child as a unique child of God.
- To provide relationships with caring adults who desire to teach and model the love of Christ to children.
- To educate children in the stories and doctrines of Scripture, using age-appropriate lessons.
- To offer opportunities for children to know and use their gifts and talents in the family of God.
- To develop in children a compassionate heart for mission.
- To model and teach Christian character and concern for others
During Worship Services
Classes and Locations
During 8:45 and 11:15 worship services:
- Nursery is open for infants up til 3 years old.
- Storytime is available for children ages 3 to 5 in room 252.
- Children in grades K – 2nd grade are dismissed to Godly Play following the children’s conversation. (8:45 only)
In Godly Play 1 and II, storytelling, art, music, and other activities enable children to encounter God using all the senses. They learn to use religious language through experiencing the parables, sacred stories from the Old and New Testaments, silence, and liturgical action. The children affirm the mystery of God's presence in their lives and are encouraged -- through "wondering" -- to relate parables and Biblical stories to their personal experience.
The Godly Play worship incorporates the elements of greeting, hymn singing, experiencing the Word through storytelling and response, reading Scripture, prayers, and benedication. Through Godly Play worship, children's faith and spiritual development are nurtured and their own innate relationship with God is affirmed and encouraged.
